Busy Sunday

Jordan and I had a delicious sandwich at EZs a few weeks ago and decided to make it for ourselves.  Super easy and yummy!

I was also busy making cupcakes for Scarlett and Clark's birthday party tomorrow.

They aren't anything too special, but I think they turned out cute!

Border Patrol

As you know, I have been in Laredo for the last 2 weeks.  I have to say, it wasn't as bad as I thought (at least most of the time).  I was expecting it to be a rundown nasty border town, but there was a really nice area of town, which thankfully we were staying in.

I was however, totally thrown off when I showed up to my dorm room to find I shared bathroom/kitchen/living room with a total stranger.  Who stunk.  Like spoiled Indian food.  Gross!  The dorm room was so depressing I went out and bought this fun blanket to make me a little happier.  And it's paisley of course.  I'm so glad I'm done with dorm life!

The clinics we worked in were really nice with tons of assistants.  It was like I was a real dentist (almost).  I saw mostly kids, which was fun.  I was suprised at how many kids actually like going to the denstist.  What freaks!  I had a little girl ask me to give her a shot today, and was disappointed when I didn't.  Like I said... freaks.

When I went down to my rotation, I assured my mom and Jordan that I wasn't really close to the border.  I knew the main clinic was on the north side of town, so I wasn't too worried.  We were informed there was another clinic we were to work at. a little more south.  The border is the blue dotted line, and as you can see, it's not that far...

This part of Laredo was crawling with border patrol officers who looked miserable in their bullet proof vests in the 109 degree heat.  I was glad I had my friend, Justin, with me everywhere I went, although I don't know that his 6'4", 100 pound body could do much to protect me.

I don't think I'm going to be eating Mexican food for a while, though, since I ate some form of it every day. In fact, one day I ate Taco Palenque for lunch and dinner... quesadillas both times. I would highly recommend it! Taco Palenque... not eating quesadillas twice in one day...

When I got home today, the hubs had a little suprise for me! In case you can't see, that's a Great American Cookie Company cake... my favorite! I just love that man!

Happy 4th of July!

Yesterday we all went to Jordan's parents' house for a 4th of July family day.  Lots of yummy food and swimming!  I've been wanting to try this cake decorating technique for a while, and it was the perfect time!  Plus I LOVE the pennants!  I have big plans for all kinds of these cuties!  If anyone wants me to, I can write out a tutorial... just let me know.

In other news, I had my last first day of school EVER!!  Yay!  That is the good news... the bad news is I have to be in Laredo bright and early Monday morning for a 2 week rotation.  Thanks for the heads up Dental School!  I suppose I got lucky in that I'm going with a friend, but still.  Yuk.  I'm sure I'll have lots of funny stories from that adventure!

Tick Tock

My summer is officially over as of Tuesday morning at 8am, which means I'm headed back to a building with no windows and no color.  Yuk.  All last year I had a plain black and white clock up on my wall in my room, and I always wanted to do something cute with it, but I was just too lazy.  I decided it was time (ha ha.. get it) to change it up and add color to my room.

Rings

One of the many photos my wedding photographer did NOT take was one of our rings.  I LOVE my ring, and wanted to show it off, so I took my own.  I took one on our comforter so it would match our room, with the intent to frame it.

This is the original.

Then I Photoshopped it.

Then I blew it up and framed it.

I love how it turned out! I eventually want to either buy or make a frame that is super thick and intricate and put it over our bed. For now, my thin sale frame will just have to do.

Summertime!

Lots of things have happened since I blogged last.  My superhero best friend, Traci, had her 3rd baby, graduated from dental school, and moved back to Abilene, all in one week.

Meet James Edward King IV!
He's so precious and I only had 6 days with him before they moved... so sad!

Right after I was done with school, I immediately went into an Oral Surgery rotation.  We were super busy, had some weirdo patients, and had lots of fun.  Thankfully I was with a couple of my really good friends, so it worked out great.  There are only a few people in life that can enjoy a good tooth pullin' with you!  After 2 weeks in my rotation, I left for my parents' house.  I was commissioned for a master bathroom re-model, but it turned out my dad had to go out of town, so I only painted a small half bath.  I love painting, and I got to paint it chocolate brown, so I was happy.
Now I've been back for 1.5 weeks, and have done NOTHING.  I literally have sat on the couch reading books.  Vampire books of course, but still.... I've officially read 18 books since I got out for the summer 5 weeks ago.  That may be a little extreme... but I'm enjoying myself, so that's all that matters.

While I've been reading, Paisley has been just laying around being all kinds of useless.  She had tests run this week to see how her liver is doing since we've implemented our changes, and she got a good report!  Yay!!  However, the tests made her sick and the poor thing ended up at the vet for a second time this week.  She needed her stuffed animal to make her feel better... ok, probably not, but it sure was cute!

Jordan and I also started Weight Watchers a few weeks ago, and I've already lost 8lbs!  The downside to this is that I haven't been able to bake anything yummy for the last month, which is so sad since I just started enjoying baking.  We have friends coming over this week for game night and I just couldn't take it any more... so I baked an upside down pineapple cake.  It's beeee-autiful!

And there you have it.  That's what I've been up to for the last 5 weeks.  I lead a very boring life, sorry!!

It's the Final Countdown

Cue the 'Rocky' music.... It's the Final Countdown!

I graduate in 324 days, which means I officially have less than a year to go!
