Thank you Mother Nature, Thank you.

Have you guys ever seen that commercial for Playtex where the really cute girls get off the plane in Hawaii and then "Mother Nature" is standing there with one of the girls "gifts"? Well, I think the commercial is really funny, but also wrong. You see, sometimes, there are women, like myself, who happily receive their monthly "gift." I didn't really think about it until last night, but then I realized I was a few days late. Granted, to some people 2 days isn't a lot, but when a baby is one of the worse things that could happen at this point in your life, it's enough to freak you out. It got me thinking (and hyperventilating). I had not PMSed over the last week and had gone to the doctor and had gained a few pounds (apparently I'm just fat). Also, I was noticing how much I was enjoying kids lately. Not that I didn't before, but I mean, I was really loving being an aunt. I hadn't really been having these feelings before and I thought it was God helping me through dental school since babies are not an option, but all the sudden, I started seeing myself as a mom, and last night it hit me- what if now God was preparing me to be a mom!?!?! Wow, big deal. Freak Out. Breathe. Only 2 days. OK. I pushed it out of my mind last night and went to bed. I told myself to give it a week, then I would really freak out. This morning I woke up and nothing. I nervously got ready for school.... and as I was ironing my pants... cramps!!! I immediately checked things out, and thank you Mother Nature, thank you!!!!

Lessons Learned

This week Jordan and I learned a couple of important lessons I would like to share with you. First, do not go to Sushi Zushi wearing a t-shirt and jeans or your coaching gear. It is a very posh and hip place, and you will look stupid. Also, don't tell the hostess, "we're here for the fried rice" b/c she will look at you like you are an idiot, considering it is a posh and hip sushi joint. Secondly, under no circumstances should you ever.... ever.... watch "The Happening." It was by far the worst movie we have seen in a while, and was definitely a waste of our $1.08 from Red Box. So these are our lessons learned, I hope you will learn from them.

Wowzers continued...

Anyone who read the last blog about my grade and thought, "Jeez, Maegan, be a little more cocky, eh?" has to understand why I am so excited. I really feel blessed to be in dental school right now, let alone making good grades. I've always been average in college, and had a lower-than-average GPA and DAT score than my class's average, and as much as I hate to admit it, I think Warren Branch had a lot to do with me getting in (yikes!). But now here I am, with above average grades, and feeling blessed out the wazoo. My husband is amazing (he just brought me flowers) and I couldn't be happier with him. He's so supportive and helps around the house when I'm studying, even though he's dead tired from teaching and coaching all day.
However, it's days like today that I miss my parents so much it hurts. They are always there to hear my stories from the day, usually venting about how hard it is. As much happiness as I have right now, I just really miss them and wish they could be in on my every day life, but not just over the phone. Besides getting good news today, I wanted them for a different reason. Well, mainly my mommy. I don't know if I'll ever grow out of wanting my mom when I'm sick, she just makes soup the best. (This is another reason why I know God is looking out for me- I didn't get sick until after my test, literally just hours. There's no way I could have focused if I was feeling like this, so thanks God, you're the best.)
So there you have it. I want my mom like a little kid; I guess in some ways I still am a kid, just married and in professional school....
I don't want you to get the wrong idea, b/c I love Jordan taking care of me. He brought me flowers to congradulate me and some Vick's kleenexes for my sniffles. (They are awesome, by the way) He is the best I could ask for, but I want them both here. Someday soon, they will be.

Wowzers

So I don't know if you all knew this, but I am a genius. I just went and checked my Gross Anatomy test scores and I think I got an 86 on my lecture portion and 88 on my lab portion. Last test was a 76 and 78... so I'll say it again, wowzers!! I won't know my official scores until next week, but for right now, I am so happy!!

Missing my baby

Paisley has only been at her NayNay and Grandpa's house for one week and I am already missing her terribly. She will be there for another 2 weeks. :O( She will be home right in time for Halloween and she will be dressed up as a spider. In tribute to my little girl, here are some cute pics from when she was a little baby.

Movies

I am taking a break from studing for a huge Gross Anatomy test I have Tuesday (pray for me, please) and thought I'd share a few movies I love. Please take into consideration that I love bathroom humor and anything else immature. I also love action movies and anything having to do with vampires (I'm a freak). I'll start with the chick flicks and then move on from there.

Chick Flicks:
Return to Me - Jordan and I watch this on our anniversary every year.
The Holiday- not usually a Cameron Dias fan, but good movie, even Jordan likes it
Notting Hill- classic
You've Got Mail- who doesn't love this movie??
Cartoons:
Hercules
Mulan
Shrek 1 & 2, but not 3
Anastasia
Incredibles
Comedies:
Juno- hilarious
Baby Mama- just saw it and thought it was hilarious
Nacho Libre- love it
Napolean Dynomite
Action:
300 - even men think these guys are hot
Open Range- not usually a western kind of a gal, but I love it!
13th Warrior- Antonio Banderes
Boondock Saints- I love anything Irish, even guys killing bad guys
Underworld 1 & 2- I love Kate Beckinsale as a vampire....
And from my Will Ferrell collection:
Anchorman- top 3 all-time favorite movies, I don't care how stupid it is!!
Talledega Nights
Elf- favorite Christmas movie
Bewitched
Classics:
Christmas in Connecticut
Bringing up Baby- Carey Grant is so cute
Gaslight
The Sting- I love the mystery of it
Holiday Inn- We'll follow the old man... Oh Bing.
Thrillers:
28 Days Later- we like zombie movies
28 Weeks Later- your heart will be pumping the whole time, literally. It's that awesome.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the new one)
The Descent- freaking scary!!
What Lies Beneath- good mystery/suspense

I think might be a good list. If you watch any of them, let me know what you think or if you share any of the same favorites.

Lots of thoughts.

I've gotten very behind on my blogging, and I've had a lot of thoughts over the last few weeks, so this might be lengthy... but fun.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who rubbed it in how awful my dog looks. Thankfully, she is with her grandparents right now, so we're hoping that in 2 weeks she will grow back somewhat, and not be so nasty. We can only hope. We did however discover an interesting thing about her thanks to her new hair style- she sits very lady-like with her knees together.

The poor thing is so naked that she constantly shivers, so we had to put a sweater on her. At least this is what we are telling her. It is really to cover up as much of her as we possibly can...

Second on my agenda, asking for anyone's explanation as to why someone would want to steal the air freshener from the bathroom. This apparently is a problem at UTHSCSA, and desperate measures had to be taken:

While studying for one of my classes, I came across a website called "phobialist.com," which lists from A to Z all the named phobias. Yes, these are real. Here are a few of my favorite:

  • Allodoxaphobia- Fear of opinion
  • Amathophobia- Fear of dust
  • Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth
  • Bibliophobia- Fear of books
  • Bromidrosiphobia or Bromidrophobia- Fear of body smells
  • Chromophobia or Chromatophobia- Fear of colors
  • Coprastasophobia- Fear of constipation
  • Consecotaleophobia- Fear of chopsticks
  • Dentophobia- Fear of dentists (10 % of Americans... boo...)
  • Eleutherophobia- Fear of freedom
  • Euphobia- Fear of hearing good news
  • Gerontophobia- Fear of old people or of growing old (I suffer from this, kind of)
  • Lutraphobia- Fear of otters
  • Myxophobia- Fear of slime
  • Panophobia or Pantophobia- Fear of everything (a bad one to have)

And you thought you had serious problems....

Ok, and last but not least, here is a cute video of Paisley (pre-shave) playing with her best friend, Remi.

Yikes.

Ok, so I don't know if you remember a blog from a few weeks ago, but I posted a picture of Paisley and the caption said something like, "We all get bad hair cuts." Well, I retract that statement. This is my cute cuddly dog 2 days ago...

And this is my disgusting dog now...

I had a slight misunderstanding of what the vet's office meant when they said "bath and shave."

My birthday present finally came in!! This is Bella's engagement ring from "Twilight". (Yes, I'm a dork, but I love it and it means something to me)

A few of my favorite things.

I put the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer first because I basically am obsessed. If you have not read these books yet, I strongly recommend them. I know they were written for teens, but I promise they are great for any age. I first heard about them from Traci, who made me read it. I read the first book within a couple of days and had finished the next 2 within the week. I had to wait 2 months for the last book to come out, and when it did, I got it at 12 am and had it finished by 8 pm the next night. Yes, they are that good. My mom, Jill, and Jaime can all be my witnesses!!

I love Smashbox make-up products. I was introduced to them when I went into Sephora to look for makeup for the wedding last December. It is a little expensive, but so worth it! My good friend, LuLu, gave me a set of lotion and bubble bath of Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy- Lavender Vanilla - Sleep for my birthday and I LOVE it! I usually don't like lavender scents, but this stuff is great! I love putting it on before I go to bed, and Jordan loves it, too!
I actually just tried this last week, and it was amazing! Bertolli Chicken Parmesan and Penna frozen dinner for 2. It was perfect for Jordan and I! I had heard from a friend at school how good it was (after I had randomly bought it), but that there wasn't a lot of chicken, so I just added some more chicken to it. It cooks on the stove in 10 mins and is so delicious- I highly recommend it. There are several other flavors that I look forward to trying.

Jaime introduced me to Crystal Light on the Go, and now Jordan and I are hooked. I never drink enough water, so this is a great way to do that. I always take a water bottle to school, but I hated refilling it b/c the water fountains are nasty tasting. However, now I take one of these packets in my lunch and refill my water bottle and I can't taste the nasty fountain water. Perfect!

This is another make-up must-have. I have really oily skin, and by the end of the day, my T-zone is shiny. My aunt, Sonia, who also has oily skin, recommended Bare Minerals, and I love it. Most days I don't even wear my liquid foundation, which I used to never go without. I got the starter package, which also came with an amazing bronzer. It is not orange at all, which is really rare in bronzers.
And there you go. Just a few things I have come to love recently. I hope you will try one of them and find as much joy as I have!
