POLL

Please make sure to partake in my poll.

We just had this conversation in class. Our professor told us we need to address patients' weight (if they are obese) in regard to their oral health. One of my fellow students asked how to go about doing that without offending the patient. Her response was: "would you address their diabetes? or heart disease? Then you should treat obesity as a disease and talk to them about it. They view you as a 'doctor' and will respect your opinion."

My response to this is: "YEAH RIGHT! We are told all the time that we aren't 'real' doctors! A person would freak out if we started talking to them about losing weight!"

Am I correct?? Please let me know- - my classmates and I are curious!

Awww....

I basically have nothing exciting to write about. School is already stressful, but more fun than Gross Anatomy, I suppose. At this point in my dental career, if I were to have a patient this might be what they would look like. I can't wait to be good at this!
Last weekend Jordan and I tried to get caught up on Harry Potter movies because we want to go see the new one, so we spent a lot of time on the couch. This wears Paisley out, and she can't even hold her head up. I thought this was so cute!!
Saturday night we went to the wedding of a couple from our church. It was beautiful! To be honest, I really don't know the bride or the groom, but I know the groom's parents very well, and the dad is an elder with Norris, so the whole family went. MacArthur Park doesn't have the most beautiful sanctuary (note: it would if it didn't have 70's orange pews), but the ceremony was gorgeous. Best Wishes Kara and Houston!!

This one is a keeper. The photographer made Norris put on Linda's (animal print) sunglasses. It was great! Nice faces Jordan and Ben...

Back to School

Today I started my second year of dental school. I have to say, getting up at 6am wasn't as hard as I thought, but I'm pretty sure I will feel it tomorrow. The morning was pretty mundane- one of our faculty telling us how hard the year will be (and why) and the gruelling task of checking in 10 pages worth of stuff that we had no clue what it was. The afternoon was even more exciting... 2 1/2 hours of lecture on dentures. Yes, dentures, aka 'Complete Removable Prosthesis for the Edentulous Patient.' Amazing stuff! Ok, maybe not.... but before the denture lecture we heard an hour on what the class was, how things are graded, yadda yadda... but!!.... this professor is from Ireland!! If you know me at all, you know I LOVE Ireland and anything related to it. [Dorky side note: in high school I collected anything and everything Irish and I had shelves completely devoted to my collection. I still have a bunch of it in storage.] Anyway, that was probably the best part of the school day.

When I got home, Jordan had completely cleaned the house (including vacuuming) and bought me flowers! He's so sweet!! He then made me a gourmet dinner... MANWHICH!!! Yum!!
I don't know how many of you out there watch 'The Bachelorette', but my friends and I have been keeping up with it all summer. We meet every Monday and have girl's night, and tonight was no different. It was the "Men Tell All" episode, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We tend to get into it just a little, making it more fun. Next week is the finale, so they gave a little preview and oh man- we flipped out at one point. Seriously... 5 girls simultaneously yelled at the tv... and poor Jordan was in our bedroom watching 'The Office' cracking up. But hey, what can I say?? It was a blast!! Here are the 3 guys that will be in the finale... just in case you care. Jillian has a really tough choice to make!

Fun Food Friday

It is safe to say that Jordan and I ate our weight in food...every day... That is one of the funnest parts about cruises- you can try anything you want and as much as you want and it is included in your price. The food was actually so-so, but still a blast to try. This is a picture of my brave husband trying escargo for the first time. He didn't like it, but I actually did! Yum Yum!

Our excursion in Cozumel was rock climbing, zip line, snorkel, and laying out. It was the most beautiful beach I've ever seen!
For a couple of kids who had never been climbing, we did pretty darn good. This is one of the more difficult climbs. We had so much fun! It sure was a good workout.... ouch. This is a great shot of my bum.

Jordan had never been snorkling, so I was excited that he had the chance. It took him a little bit to get used to it, but he loved it after a while. We took lots of pics with underwater cameras, so we'll see how they turned out once we have them developed. We ate at the beach, and look at this view! There was such a nice breeze, and being in the shade was perfect!
The prettiest fish tacos we'd ever seen.

The port our ship docked at. They had landscaped it beautifully.
The night after Cozumel.
The last night. You can kind of tell how much sun I got the last day... I fell asleep on the deck and 2 hours later woke up looking like a lobster! Ouch!!

Our table-mates and waiters. Like I said, they really made the cruise wonderful!

So many pics...

We just got back from our 5 day cruise, which was amazing! It got off to a rocky start b/c our room was pretty gross, but smelled even worse. Apparently a pipe had busted and our floors were all wet and therefore mildewy. It smelled AWFUL until later that night when our stateroom attendant put air freshener in our room and it fixed it. Our first night we went to go sit at our assigned dinner table, only to find it was a booth with 4 random people who didn't so much as say hi to us, and we were sitting across from each other. By this point I was ready to cry. After much deliberation on what to do, we decided to ask if we could be seated somewhere else, which we were. We immediately hit it off with our new table and absolutely loved all our dinners together! There were 4 other couples besides us, all over the age of 50, but hilarious! They made us feel so comfortable and we laughed ridiculously hard every night. Jordan and I agree that dinner time was one of our favorite things about this cruise b/c of the people we were with.

This is our first night.

The main atrium
Our favorite bar- Chinatown. They had the most amazing cover-band ever! We loved them!
Our boat. Not necessarily new or big, but ok nice.
We thought about buying this shirt for Linda, but thought better of it. (Just Kidding...)
The neatest excursion: Chichen Itza. Please don't judge me on my stance in this pic, Jordan caught me as I was turning so I look a little special.
It was a hot, but gorgeous day! Our tour guide was amazing and super excited about everything he was telling us. He is Mayan, and so he had a definite sense of pride when he gave us the history of everything. It is one of the 7 Wonders of the World for a good reason!

Formal Night
On the deck laying out on our first Day at Sea.

Cruise Pics

Here are ALL of our pics if you want to see them. I'm going to post my favorites, though.

Lookin' Good

Yesterday I noticed my left eyelid was a little sore, but not inflamed. I thought it was from rubbing my eyes so hard this weekend from all the concrete dust. I woke up this morning and my eye was halfway swollen shut. Not ok when you're leaving on a cruise in <2> and reassured me it would start to take effect in 2 days. Once again, not ok. He told me the sooner I got the ointment in my eye the better and sent me to Wal-Mart's pharmacy. I dropped it off and 45 mins later went to pick it up, but they were out of stock. I waited 20 mins for the pharmacist to call around to different places trying to find somewhere that had this ointment in stock. HEB came through. After several other pre-cruise errands, I finally got the goods and came home to put the ointment in and put a hot compress on my eye per the doc's orders. Nobody said anything about the ointment stinging!! Ouch! You can tell a little bit in the picture that it is swollen, but it is actually worse in person, unfortunately. Our cruise pics are going to look awesome.

On a better note, Jordan and I spent all day yesterday trying to find last-minute cruise items. I definitely got the best deals. For formal night, I found a red sultry knee-length dress for $20 at TJ Maxx, and $10 red and gold sandals to match. Yes, $30 for the whole outfit! I also found a bathing suit and coverup at Wal-Mart on sale, as well as 2 other dresses at Stein Mart for sale. Jordan and I both have over spent our clothing quota for the year, but will look great... if my eye goes back to normal. I might look awful, but we'll have to wait and see (which is very hard [seeing that is...] considering I'm having to use only one eye). I never ever wear high heels, and I bought 2 super high heels for the cruise, so this might be interesting. One of my favorite purchases are the yellow pumps. I have been looking for some all summer and haven't been able to find any affordable ones. The last week I have looked EVERYWHERE for them b/c I have a black and white dress I wanted to wear them with on the cruise. Until last night, I had not been able to find any. As a last desperate attempt, Jordan and I went to North Star mall and voila! There they were for $16! Now I am completely ready for the cruise!

Fool's Gold

Jordan and I went to the Prime Outlets in San Marcos today, and I finally had the chance to wear my new gold jewelry. After about 6 hours, I looked down, and found a huge green band around my wrist. Yuk- thanks a lot New York & Company!
I don't know how many of you know, but Jordan and I leave Saturday for a 5 day Carnival cruise! We caught the travel bug thanks to The Travel Channel and all our friends who went to cool places. I found a really good price, so we booked it. Tax return moolah is a beautiful thing. We're going to Progresso and Cozumel. In Progresso we're going to Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
In Cozumel, we are going on a zip line and snorkel adventure. I'm really excited about the zip line! Jordan has never been snorkling, so I'm glad he'll be able to. This is what we will be seeing a week from tomorrow...
